This is the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
People ask me what I’m going to do after college and I have often replied, “I’m pursuing music.” But that’s not at all what I want to do with my life. As cliche as this stuff always sounds, I want my heart’s posture and life’s action to never simply equate to “pursuing music!”
I read in 1 Samuel 12:21 “Do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty!”
Music is so empty. There is always someone better, it’s one of the most terrifying career choices, and it’s not a fulfillment in itself, but the result of being fulfilled or a means of declaring something! So my pursuit is not, and never will be, music. My pursuit is in Christ Jesus who gives me the renewed mercies every morning that give me something worth singing about!
This summer I’m going to the place Jesus gave this commission. Yep, I'm going to Israel! I’m going because I know I will never read my Bible the same way, I will never write a song the same, and overall, I pray I never am the same! I believe this trip is going to send me out into my pursuit of Jesus after graduation with such clarity. I will have walked where HE has walked and seen things HIS eyes have seen! Financial support is welcomed from anyone who wishes to help me in my pursuit. I truly believe this is going to shoot me into the world with a newfound certainty of my call. I trust the Lord has already provided a way!
